Two of our favorite Virginia towns were winners in the Blue Ridge Outdoors Top Adventure Towns’ contest for 2020. Charlottesville  won for best mid-sized town and Roanoke won the large adventure town division.

Check out our Roanoke destination feature for fun things to do with your furry friend! The area offers more than 1,000 miles of trails, a pedestrian-friendly—for both two-legged and four-legged visitors—downtown with a great outdoor farmers market and lots of great locally owned boutiques and restaurants. An easy drive from Roanoke , the towns of Bedford and Floyd won best small town and best tiny town.

You and Fido can walk in historic footsteps in Charlottesville on the campus of the University of Virginia—designed by Thomas Jefferson—or enjoy the town’s pedestrian-friendly mall for shopping and sidewalk café dining.
